To overcome these challenges, Punch was commissioned to design Global Perspectives on the Islamic Creative Economy, a comprehensive book that would serve as both a guide and a vision document for Dubai’s ICAE aspirations.
The book was structured around four key pillars essential for building a thriving Islamic Creative Economy:
- Fostering Creativity and Innovation: Encouraging originality and supporting creative talent.
- Creating a Conducive Business Environment: Establishing supportive policies and infrastructure for ICAE growth.
- Promoting Cultural Entrepreneurship: Empowering individuals to drive cultural and economic progress.
- Investing in Infrastructure and Education: Building resources and knowledge to sustain long-term growth.
Each pillar was presented with expert insights, survey results, and compelling observations to provide a comprehensive view of ICAE’s current state and potential.
In this book, the hexagon serves as a foundational design element, echoing the harmony and interconnectedness inherent in Islamic art.
Known for its six-fold symmetry and ability to tessellate, the hexagon symbolizes unity and the infinite, embodying the seamless and interwoven nature of creation.
This geometric form reflects the Islamic principle of tawhid, or the unity of God, as each hexagon interlocks with others, creating a vast, continuous pattern that speaks to the boundless beauty of the universe.
Through this design, the hexagon becomes more than a shape—it transforms into a visual metaphor for order, balance, and divine artistry.
Visually, the book featured a user-friendly layout with striking images, graphics, and infographics that illustrated key ideas, making it accessible and engaging for both experts and the public.
This design approach enabled a clear communication of ICAE’s significance, creating a roadmap for Dubai’s ambitions in the sector.
